| Visit
Moclín Moclín is a good choice for a day out or for a holiday. Here are some top things to do: |
|
|||||||||||||||||
| 1 | Visit
the castle.
It’s free of charge at any time of the day. The views are incredible.
Children will need supervision as there are some dizzying drops. |
|||||||||||||||||
| 2 | Explore
the museum.
It costs 3 Euros and you will need to contact the owner, Manolo to
make an appointment beforehand. It’s usually best to phone
at least one day in advance. His number is 689 11 81 16.
The
museum collection is interesting and varied. Where else can you see
a contraceptive for sheep made from esparto grass? |
|||||||||||||||||
| 3 | Spend
some time in the Posito
del Pan.
The
17th century granary also belongs to Manolo. Not only is it a beautiful
building, it is filled with an eclectic poster collection and the
works of Manolo himself. He is a sculptor in metal and
some of his work is for sale. In the centre of the Posito is an
open fireplace and in winter, if you are lucky, he might light
the fire and offer you a little something to keep out the cold.
Contact Manolo (in advance) on the above number. |

| 4 | Visit
the church.
The church itself is fairly simple and unadorned. It dates from the
17th century. The painting of Jesus (Cristo del Paño) which
is displayed above the altar is much beloved by the people of Moclín
and has its devotees all over Spain. It is thought to possess healing
powers and thousands of pilgrims come to visit Moclín on 5
October every year. On this day the painting is taken from the church.
Decorated with flowers it is carried through the village for all
to see. Opening hours are:
The church is closed on Thursdays. On Sundays Mass is from 11.00 am |

| 5 | Put on your walking shoes. There are some fabulous walks around Moclín. The most notable is the Camino Mozarabe which passes through Moclin. This is one of the walks of Saint James (Sant' Iago) It starts in Granada and goes all the way to Santiago de Compostella in the north of Spain. For further details look at the official website: www.csj.org.uk/route-camino-mozarabe.htm Try one of the walks on our website. We will be adding more in future so check it out regularly. Please let us know if you have a favourite walk and we will add it to our list. Please take care when walking
in or around Moclin. If you are walking along a road used by traffic,
be aware that cars may come speeding around bends. The paths can
be quite dusty and there are loose stones and rocks, so take extra
care not to slip when walking up or down a slope. A stick is a good
idea and so are boots, sunscreen/ hat and a mobile phone. Take a
bottle of water. Because of the altitude, you will need to drink
more than you normally would when on a walk. |

| 6 | Take
a course.
From autumn 2008 visitors will be able to come to Moclín
for painting holidays, writers workshops and coaching weekends,
intensive Spanish courses for beginners and intensive English courses
for all levels. To find out more email us at: info@moclintourism.com |

Eating Out At the moment there is a choice
of 2 places to eat out in Moclín. By autumn 2008 we hope the
number to have doubled. Of course there are other
restaurants in nearby villages, including Rincon de Marcelo and Zapps
in Tozar and the Escudo de Granada in Puerto Lope. |
